Motorcycle Song

by Diane Siebert
Illustrated by Leonard Jenkins

Published by HarperCollins, 2002

Ages 4 - 9

Some children who dream about having a cycle might be skeptical about poetry at first, but they won't stop turning these pages after seeing Jenkins' paintings picturing cyclists on the open road. They'll be riveted to the rhythms of Siebert's rhymed lines. They'll picture being "dressed in gloves and boots and jeans / loves to ride two-wheeled machines / helmet on and face shield down / riding gliding right through town." Siebert herself has traveled the nation by motorcycle. Her knowledge of the road is evident in her exuberant, enjoyable tribute to cycles and cycling.
