We Goddesses: Athena, Aphrodite, Hera

by Doris Orgel
Illustrated by Marilee Heyer

Published by DK Ink, 1999
112 pages
ISBN: 0-7894-2586-6

Ages 8 - 14

Doris Orgel sets the stage for her creative approach to Greek mythology in her introduction, where she writes about the role of women in Greek society and the characters of goddesses in the mythology. She also explains why she chooses to focus on stories about Athena, Aphrodite, and Hera in this collection. Each of these three goddesses is then accorded her own section, and the individual goddesses recount some of their own stories. Orgel's conversational style will make the classical myths more widely accessible to young readers, as will her frequent marginal notes which provide definitions and pronunciations for many of the unfamiliar terms. CCBC categories: Folklore, Mythology and Traditional Literature. (KTH; Mar 13) 1999 Cooperative Children's Book Center
