Jalapeno Bagels

by Natasha Wing
Illustrated by Robert Casilla

Ages 4-7

Pablo needs to bring something to school to share for International Day. His Mexican mother and Jewish father run a Mexican Jewish Bakery, so he decides to bring a baked treat to share. But which one? After much deliberation, he tells his parents he’ll bring jalapeño bagels, “Because they are a mixture of both of you. Just like me!” Muted watercolor illustrations do not emphasize the racial diversity in this family. Instead it is the text that focuses on their daily celebration of both cultures.
