I Am Albert Einstein

by Brad Meltzer
Illustrated by Christopher Eliopoulos

Published by Dail, 2014
40 pages
ISBN: 978𢠪037-40846

Ages 7-10

揈ver been called weird? Or different? That抯 what they thought I was. On the day I was born, my mom was actually scared since she抎 never seen a baby with such a giant head. A short, graphic biography of Albert Einstein combines a fictionalized first-person narrative and tongue-in-cheek humor with plenty of information about its subject. One of the playful conceits is Einstein抯 appearance he抯 shown with his full bushy mustache and eyebrows, and big head of hair, from the time he is a baby. (A running joke: 揗y hair is awesome!) But he抯 also portrayed as a deep thinker, one who was often misunderstood but persisted in pursuing ideas even when he was criticized. 揑 will never stop being curious. And I hope you won抰 either. The more questions you ask, the more answers you抣l find. And the more beauty you抣l uncover in the universe. Speech bubble dialogue is used in scenes illustrating events in Einstein抯 life. A handful of photographs and a timeline conclude this unusual and refreshing approach to biography for young readers.  © Cooperative Children's Book Center
