Mississippi Bridge
From his vantage point on the front steps of the Wallace store in a small Mississippi town in the 1930s, Jeremy Simms, a ten-year-old white boy, watches as the weekly bus pulls in to load passengers and luggage. As the seats begin to fill up with white passengers, the Black passengers are ordered off the bus. Sensitive Jeremy sees the unfairness in the situation but he remains a silent bystander. Interracial tensions and interactions are flawlessly depicted in this gripping story which builds to a dramatic, surprising ending. ©1990 Cooperative Children's Book Center
