Snow Day (Jo Jo Makoons, #3)
Seven-year-old Josephine Makoons Azure (Jo Jo) lives with her Mama, Kokum, and cat Mimi on the fictional Pembina Ojibwe Nation. When a snowstorm cancels school, Jo Jo makes the most of her free day. She delivers food to Elders in the neighborhood, thoughtfully “taste-testing” the frybread first. Later she and her friends involve the Elders in their Ojibwe Olympics, which include a Lip-Pointing Race and a round-dance. Jo Jo’s irrepressible energy and distinctive voice add humor to this short, spirited illustrated novel imbued with a deep sense of community and grounded cultural knowledge. ©2023 Cooperative Children’s Book Center
