Some names (Ruby Bridges and Frida Kahlo) may be familiar, while others (18th-century firefighter Molly Williams and World War II British secret agents Jaqueline and Eileen Nearne) are likely to be new to most readers. The diversity of the women highlighted—across time, race, class, and achievement—as well as the variety of poetic structures, including acrostic, concrete, and free verse, lend energy to this accessible volume.
