Q: I’m a high school librarian. My principal just asked me to talk about Banned Books week at our next high school faculty meeting. Where can I get information on such short notice?
The Banned Books Week coalition has a web site with comprehensive information, from lists of the top challenged books year by year (compiled by the American Library Association Office for Intellectual Freedom) to informational materials and resources–both links and downloads–to a listing of events for each year’s observance.
The outstanding information on this site will be very helpful.
If you have time before the meeting, you might want to quickly pull some of the “banned books” from the past. Your colleagues, and administrators, will be amazed at the range of books over time.
