Stamped (for Kids): Racism, Antiracism, and You
CCBC Review:
This adaptation of the young adult book Stamped (which was an adaptation of the adult book Stamped from the Beginning) revises the material for a middle grade audience, utilizing short chapters, illustrations, and an emphasis on action. With a conversational tone and accessible metaphors, the narrative opens with definitions of segregationist, assimilationist, and antiracist before moving to concise snapshots through American history, beginning with the European conquerors and slavery rationalizations of the 15th century, moving through the country’s founding, slavery and the Civil War, the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, and concluding with a chapter on Black Lives Matter. A timeline of “Key Moments in American History,” a glossary, and suggestions for Further Reading are included in the back matter. ©2022 Cooperative Children’s Book Center
