What Can You Do with a Rock?
CCBC Review:
A young rock collector describes the many things to do with rocks. You can kick a rock around the block; skip rocks over water; drop them to appreciate the sounds they make (but be careful what’s underneath!); hunt for them (not all rocks are meant to be taken, but you can enjoy the ones that aren’t right where they are); sort the ones you find (“Should your tiny white rock go with other tiny rocks? With other white rocks? Or with other rocks that make you smile?); study them; change them into something else, like a bridge, or a mosaic or a necklace; keep them as reminders of places you’ve been; and finally, share them with a friend, and then find more—together. There are other ideas for what you can do with a rock in this narrative accompanied by watercolor illustrations that show the young collector as white-skinned (with blue hair) and concluding with more about types of rocks, things to consider when colleting, and places to learn more. ©2022 Cooperative Children’s Book Center
