Curious contemplations on the daily wonders of the natural world are offered by Josephine, a remarkably long-necked and highlighter-hued giraffe, the eponymous philosopher in this peaceful board book for older toddlers. “Josephine pokes her nose into the blue and her hooves into the green” describes the scene showing hundreds of delicate blue raindrops cascading down Josephine’s frame and, a moment later, the gentle blades of green grass carpeting her feet. Simple and effective use of the gutter, combined with clever alignment of the horizon, enhances the contrast and significance of Josephine’s observations. “She dreams about winter’s confetti and the merry bubbles of summer” shows white dots of snow falling from a blue sky while Josephine admires her likeness in a snow sculpture. The same white dots become air bubbles in a blue sea as Josephine swims with a fish. Exceptional care was taken in the design of this board book, echoing and elevating Josephine’s appreciation for moments of quiet beauty and delight. ©2026 Cooperative Children’s Book Center
