Animals by the Numbers: A Book of Infographics
CCBC Review:
“Numbers help us understand our world,” Jenkins writes in his introduction. “When it comes to animals, numbers are especially important. How big is a whale? How fast is a cheetah?” Each brilliantly colored double-page spread provides infographics on topics such as species size, biomass, speed, life spans, etc., all shown with various types of graphs and diagrams in which fascinating facts emerge. For example, all of the insects on Earth weigh almost 300 times as much as all of the humans on Earth. The giant anteater has the longest tongue of all animals (24 inches) but when length is considered in comparison to body size, the Morgan’s sphinx moth is the winner, with a tongue three times its body length. These and other intriguing facts abound in this highly visual look at the animal kingdom through a mathematical lens. (Ages 4–12) ©2016 Cooperative Children's Book CenterIllustrated by Steve Jenkins
