Our Green City
CCBC Review:
“Welcome to our green city ... Being green means we take care of all living things.” This purposeful book about green practices at home and in a community has an interactive element for young children. Each double-page spread reveals a different scene from the fictional city and briefly discusses a specific aspect of environmentally friendly practices (e.g., transportation, energy, gardening and farming, green architecture, etc.). The narrative on each page ends with a question that invites readers to pore over the bright, energetic mixed-media illustrations showing scenes of life in the city and its diverse residents. Most questions are seek-and-find (“How many wheels can you count? … Who is hiding from the raindrops?”), although a few are open-ended, inviting discussion (“What should we do on this windy day?”). ©2022 Cooperative Children’s Book Center
