The inaugural Student Showcase at the CCBC is an opportunity for selected UW undergraduate and graduate students to present on a topic of their choice in relation to children’s and young adult literature.
Short (5-15 min) presentations can be in any format (e.g., oral, visual, etc.) Anyone is welcome to attend; the in-person event will take place in the Elizabeth Burr Conference Room at the CCBC on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 17, 2024 from 3:00-5:00pm.
Sample presentation topics:
- A slideshow presentation about the evolution in artistic mediums used in Caldecott award-winning titles from 1938-2024
- An oral presentation about the heist genre in middle grade and high school fiction and how recent novels have reworked the genre to further include diverse identities, differing genres, and varying age groups, etc.
- What’s on Pointe and What’s Not: Dissecting dance in picture books for young readers (and dancers), a visual presentation showing illustrations from a range of books alongside photos of actual dancers and/or dance demonstrations from the presenter
- Beloved children’s book characters from around the world: Meet Papelucho from Chile and Peasprout Chen from Taiwan, the Moomintrolls from Finland and Blinky Bill from Australia, and more in this visual global tour presented on poster board
Presentation proposals from current UW-Madison students are due on March 15, 2024. Selections will be made by March 22, 2024.
