Ten Little Puppies = Diez perritos
Writing team Alma Flor Ada and F. Isabel Campoy bring to life this traditional Spanish nursery rhyme through a bilingual English/Spanish picture book. A little girl begins with ten puppies of ten different breeds, but one by one, they leave the group: (one takes off to chase a cat, one comes down with the flu, and another ones leaves to sing with Juan), resulting in one less puppy at the turn of each page. Before long there is only one left—the pup that will never go “cause he knows I love him so.” Rhyming, repetition, and the inclusion of musical notation allow this rhyme to be sung, and explanations of each type of puppy offer more information on various dog breeds. Gentle, color illustrations by Ulises Wensell accompany this simple yet engaging nursery rhyme. Rosalma Zubizarreta did the English translation. ©2011 Cooperative Children's Book Center
