Fabulous! A Portrait of Andy Warhol
CCBC Review:
“Wow! See that guy with the wild silver wig and the white white skin?” A picture book introduction to Andy Warhol and his art does a remarkable job providing an overview of his life and explaining how his distinctive style developed. Most page spreads feature a paragraph or two of text on a particular aspect of Warhol’s life and work in a narrative that moves forward chronologically and covers significant periods or turning points (e.g., “Illness, Third Grade,” “High School Years,” “College,” “The ‘Cockroach’ Period,” “Campbell’s Soup Cans”). Warhol’s offbeat approach to both life and art make for fascinating reading in an engaging volume featuring mixed media illustrations that give a strong sense of time and place. A bibliography and timeline, along with an author’s note, conclude this “fabulous” work. ©2011 Cooperative Children's Book Center
