Children of Long Ago
Lessie Jones Little, the mother of poet Eloise Greenfield, was born in North Carolina in 1906. The 17 poems included in this volume evoke her memories of rural life in an African American family in the early 20th century, as seen through the eyes of a young child. Watercolor illustrations fill every double-page spread in this handsome book that was first published in 1988, and is now happily back in print.
