The Sleepover and Other Stories (Fox and Chick)
Three more easy-to-read stories showcase demanding Chick and ever-patient Fox. In the first story, Chick shows up uninvited for a sleepover and won’t let Fox sleep until Fox can assure Chick that there’s not a kangaroo hiding somewhere in the bedroom. Next, Chick can’t find her hammer, and then, once she does, can’t find a nail. By the time she finds a nail, she has lost her hammer again. Lastly, Chick asks Fox to throw her a surprise birthday party, giving precise instructions about how to do it: a chocolate cake with sprinkles that are pink and round, and no party hats (“I always choke on party hats.”). As with past volumes, each story has excellent characterizations, gentle humor, and a satisfying conclusion with a twist, either visual or verbal. ©2022 Cooperative Children’s Book Center
