Who Is a Scientist?
CCBC Review:
“Who is a scientist? This is a scientist. Isha is a meteorologist. She studies the weather. She loves to dance, play volleyball, and eat chocolate.” Isha M. Renta López is one of 14 diverse individuals working in science and technology fields profiled in this welcome picture book. Each double-page spread focus on one individual, with a brief text providing giving a sense of their work and interests, and a longer paragraph in smaller font giving a few more details about the job they do. Two color photographs are included as part of each profile: a full-page photo showing one of the ways they like to spend time outside of work, and a smaller photo showing them doing their work. This emphasis on both vocation and avocation is wonderful, giving a sense of the fullness of their lives. The final page spread invites readers to consider what kind of scientist they might want to be someday. ©2022 Cooperative Children’s Book Center
