Reina Ramos Works It Out!
CCBC Review:
When Mr. Li announces that the class will have a wax museum event, Reina immediately knows the celebrity she wants to portray—her Latina hero, Mexican painter Frida Kahlo! The trouble is, Reina’s best friend Nora signs up to be Frida, not realizing Frida was Reina’s choice. Reina makes a mess, literally and figuratively, dealing with her feelings. Her abuela’s advice, and music, inspire Reina to make up with Nora and make a different choice. While young readers might not be familiar with the concept of a wax museum, they will undoubtedly recognize feelings related to school friendships and problem-solving. Spanish words, a glossary, and a list of the famous Latine persons mentioned are included in this colorfully illustrated chapter books for independent readers. ©2022 Cooperative Children’s Book Center
