Dia De Muertos Numeros: A Day of the Dead Counting Book
In a book that works equally well as a counting book and holiday primer, a Day of the Dead altar is assembled one item at a time. On each page, the left side shows a close-up of each item, with brief text in Spanish and English. The right shows a multi-tiered altar on which different Latine family members place the highlighted item. At the conclusion, a double-fold page spread shows all ten family members gathered around the altar with candles, music, food, and drinks to celebrate the memory of a deceased loved one. Duncan Tonatiuh’s Mesoamerican art style incorporates digital collage in a warm and straightforward accounting of Día de Muertos. ©2023 Cooperative Children’s Book Center
