Blue Sky Morning
CCBC Review:
“Wake up, Eunny! It’s a beautiful, blue sky morning.” A quiet, second-person narrative gently encourages small moments of mindfulness during a Korean girl’s weekday morning routine. As Eunny sits up in bed, white morning light streams into her bedroom, while outside, the street bustles with pedestrians and cyclists. After breakfast made by Grandma, Eunny and Mama step out into the world. “It’s bright when you step outside, and the air feels cool and fresh. Take a deep breath. / Have you noticed the flowers?” Eunny, who is “not in a hurry today,” takes a moment to gaze at the wide blue sky, and later at the leaves beginning to change color. Eunny and Mama talk about the day ahead before parting at Mama’s bus stop; around the corner, Sohee meets Eunny near their school. “The blue sky is making her happy too.” The girls head toward the school gates together, and the story concludes with an illustration of Eunny gazing happily out of her classroom window, and an echo of the opening sentence. “What a beautiful, blue sky morning.” Soft, realistic watercolor illustrations capture the tranquility of Eunny’s home and neighborhood streets on a lovely morning. ©2026 Cooperative Children’s Book Center
