Fort-Building Time
CCBC Review:
“Winter is a snowball-throwing, scarf-wrapping, sled-pulling, ice-sliding time. / A dog-snuggling, cocoa-drinking, snowman-making, fort-building time!” A lilting rhyming text describes the activities of a group of children who build a different kind of fort in each season, starting with a snow fort in winter, then on to a tent fort, a beach fort, and finally a tree fort. Spritely watercolor illustrations show a multiracial cast of girls and boys playing together outside over the span of a year. Both the words and pictures acknowledge that children will always find a way to build a “cozy-keeping” fort of some type and incorporate it into their imaginative play. ©2017 Cooperative Children's Book CenterIllustrated by Abigail Halpin
