Books by and/or about Black, Indigenous and People of Color, 1985-2001

In 1985, the CCBC began documenting the number books by Black creators and about Black experience that we received annually. In 1994 we began document books for First/Native Nations (American Indians), Asian/Pacific, and Latinx. Through 2001, we combined the “by and about” data.

How to Cite This Data: We welcome researchers and others using or referencing the CCBC diversity statistics in reports, papers, presentations,  blog posts, etc., as long as credit is given to the Cooperative Children’s Book Center for its work compiling the data. The CCBC should be cited as follows:  “Data on books by and about Black, Indigenous and People of Color published for children and teens compiled by the Cooperative Children’s Book Center, School of Education, University of Wisconsin-Madison.” A url linking to this page should be provided, including on visual materials based on CCBC statistics.
