Stand Up! Speak Up! A Story Inspired by the Climate Change Revolution
CCBC Review:
Two-word phrases ending with “up” (Wake up / Meet up / Signs up / Rise up / etc.) show a young white girl joining other children in a climate change protest. After she and her parents “stay up” to watch the news coverage of their protest, she can’t stop thinking about the images she’s seen on the news about climate disasters and she talks her parents into joining her at a town hall meeting to get adults involved in the movement. The black-and-white cartoon illustrations with touches of green leave a lot of space for children to interpret and talk about what is happening on every page (including what the girl is feeling) as the story chronicles her involvement and growth as an activist. The book concludes with a short profiles of fourteen diverse young climate change activists from around the world. ©2021 Cooperative Children’s Book Center
